Wrappin' it Up

1. Tell me about something you learned about another culture this term that really surprised or intrigued you.

Throughout this course, I was able to learn a lot of information in such a short period of time. I really enjoyed learning about the music of the Native Americans. I didn’t realize how much they related their music to nature and the efficiency of the types of instruments they made. I really enjoyed doing the “Cool Blog” for this topic because I was able to learn about a modern Native American artist. If it wasn’t for that assignment, I probably would still not know about her.

2. Tell me about something that you realized about your own culture through our discussions.

I realized that a lot of cultures share similar qualities. I think we get so closed-minded for no reason when at the end of the day we are all the same.

3. Tell me about a couple of things you really liked about this class, and a couple of things you wish could have been different.

I really enjoyed the concept of a blog. I think it allowed the class to be involved with each other. We were able to educate each other without really having to talk to each other. I also really enjoyed that you were able to present a lot of the instruments that we spoke about in person. I feel like it really allowed us to fully visualize and understand the significance of it. I wish that the listening quizzes could have been set up differently. I understand it was apart of the textbook but questions it asked really weren’t relevant.

4. Tell me about something that this course has inspired you to learn more about.

This course has inspired me to come out of my musical comfort zone. I didn’t realize that I would like a lot of the music that we heard in class. It has allowed me to be more open to new things. I need to learn to not be so judgmental and give everything a shot. Yes, I am aware that I still won’t like everything but at least now I am not scared to explore.
